✨ Product Overview

Meet the Ortegocactus macdougallii (Candy Cactus, also known as Ortega Cactus) — an ultra-rare, stunning globular cactus that’s a true collector’s gem! 🤩
This extraordinary succulent features a unique, pale mint-green spherical body with a distinct, wrinkled, "brain-like" texture, crowned with sharp, silvery-white to black spines that radiate from each areole. It offsets readily, forming gorgeous, dense clusters of these textured "living candies". In spring, it blooms with vibrant, bright yellow flowers that emerge from the top of each cactus, creating a stunning contrast against its pale green body. Every cluster is one-of-a-kind, with natural variations in texture and growth pattern, making each plant a unique living artwork. 🌿

💧 Care Guide (Collector-Friendly!)

This rare Mexican cactus is adapted to mountainous conditions, requiring gentle care to thrive:
  • ☀️ Sunlight: Thrives in bright, indirect light or partial shade. Avoid intense direct midday sun, which can burn its pale green skin.
  • 💦 Watering: Extremely drought-tolerant! Follow the "soak and dry" method, water sparingly only when the soil is completely dry (every 3-4 weeks in growing season). Keep 100% dry in winter during dormancy to avoid root rot.
  • 🌡️ Temperature: Ideal growing temperature 15-28°C (59-82°F). Can tolerate short periods down to 5°C (41°F) when dry. Protect from frost!
  • 🪴 Soil: Use an extremely fast-draining, gritty cactus mix (80%+ grit: pumice, volcanic rock, perlite) to mimic its mountain habitat.
  • ⚠️ Special Note: This cactus is endangered in the wild and grows extremely slowly, making mature clusters highly prized by collectors. A cool, dry winter rest is critical for flowering.
